Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world may be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
