Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in popularity so quickly.
Omaha/8 starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants can get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand takes the complete pot.
It may seem complex initially, following a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play easily enough. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing array of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals battling for the high, along with many battling for the low. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha/8.
