Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
