Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
