Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While playing online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
