I have been wagering poker now for about five years, I’ve played cards my entire life starting with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various styles of Brag and basic random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so gracefully called, card on head game. I used to always win, whatever game we were playing and although I liked to call it skill, it was very tough to warrant thinking about the randomness of the games we were playing, so I was pleased to accept I was having a long-term run of good fortune.
Then came Poker, or more importantly Hold’em Poker, made famous by a group of Texas card players in the sixties and since grown into one of the biggest card phenomena ever seen. Poker is totally the new black, it is uber cool with many of the world’s leading superstars racing to have their name connected with it. Just a quick scan through the TV channels nowadays and it is possible to not escape from poker, and naturally there’s the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all combined into one for every individual gambler.
So with all of this new found popularity, with so a lot of Tv shows dedicated to poker, and magazine and book shelves filled up with high quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are persons going to understand that this game is all about position!?
Perhaps I really should not have so worked up about this, after all the a lot more individuals who struggle with the delicate techniques and strategies required for winning consistently at Holdem, the better it truly is for everyone else, right? I mean, if they can’t be bothered to look at all of the accessible data about why position is so significant, why really should we bother? We ought to just be glad there’s one more fish at the table!
It is true, we really should not encourage idleness with advice and support. Even so, I liken this to a helpful casino game of football. Granted the stakes are not so great, but when you observe a player having difficulties, you guide them, offer them some advice, ultimately showing them a method to like, like and appreciate the game as much as you. I’m askin all home players to do exactly the same thing with their poker friends who haven’t quite got a handle on the nuances of betting position. Help them to grow their respect for the game. Naturally, don’t attempt to try this one in your nearby gambling establishment, the sharks won’t appreciate you teaching their meal how to swim!
