Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
