Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
