Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
