Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
