Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he enjoyed playing different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these particular card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved away to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were tough as he played countless hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus more on the game.
The real improvement in his skills began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would frequently play against each other. Howard had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his logical thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL hold’em.
Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and competed in cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
