Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some entrants often get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same notion in nearly all poker games.
The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complex at the outset, following a few hands you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of play easily enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi lo provides an amazing array of betting possibilities and seeing that you have several players shooting for the high, as well as several battling for the low. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi lo.
