Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he loved participating in various card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and headed to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he would play many hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could boost his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more rest and focus more on poker.
The definite advancement in his skills began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would often challenge each other. Howard was able to access several of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL texas hold’em.
Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker arena ever. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the following decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
